My concept behind the aesthetic look of my book is the idea of this book being mistreated. This is represented by its grunginess, and how the pages are destroyed or defaced. I wanted it to look abused, in correlation to the refugees, where I feel that the refugees are being neglected and forgotten, I want my book to be viewed the same. I also like the idea of someone loving it and trying to restore it and make a personal kind of book for themselves. I want it to feel like an object a refugee would own. I used a ‘found’ style of materials or objects, not of high quality or much colour, yet still retaining a well-made look. I also distressed some pages to give a more damaged look.

for this piece I bought and old book and used a variety of mixed media to give it its style, including charcoal, textiles, paint, photography etc.
